Methods of Cataloguing

Of these choices, I chose The Shipping Forecast for cataloguing.
I used to design a creative cocktail list for my bar when I was a bartender, and I think the presentation was somewhat similar to hers.(Crews often use ‘she’ when describing surface ships, so I preferred ‘her’).

So I’ll start with the shipping forecast.

The Shipping Forecast is a regular BBC weather forecast providing marine weather information primarily for the maritime and fishing industries. It is usually broadcast on an hourly basis and covers information on wind speed, direction, waves and visibility in the North Sea, Irish Sea and English Channel. This forecast is known for its distinctive language and format, and has even become a cultural phenomenon, often considered a form of poetry in English.

WEEK 1

Firstly because of her very strong lines in this article I classify the key text information in it.I later summarised them in structured categories based on the SHIPPING forecast audio and listed them.

Then I focused on the fact that shipping forecast categorises the UK’s seas into 31 zones for different reasons, so I vector mapped them and graded the seas according to their specific level of danger.

WEEK 2

I created catalogue hierarchies like this one, based on the high frequencies in the strictly standard formatted audio of the Shipping Forecast, in which the 31 regions are divided into 8 hierarchies according to climate comfort.

About the pages, I broke them down by weather, visibility, wind and sea conditions and graphically represented them in their respective areas.
So, for the cataloguing of this shipping, my concern was to make people aware of the grading principles of the 31 sea areas, like a kind of jigsaw puzzle in the form of an instruction manual.

However, the formal aspects may still need to be confirmed, and right now I’m trying to create a graphical language based on the SHIP model description to explain this project of mine.
